Physics FAQ

What is Mu2e trying to measure?
Mu2e is an experiment to measure the conversion of a muon into an electron in the field of the nucleus without the emission of the neutrinos that are expected due to conservation of lepton number in the standard model.
What physics beyond the Standard Model could the experiment be sensitive to?
SUSY, etc. here for a test
Where did the idea originate?
testing
What is the current best limit?
testing
What competing and complementary measurements are being done by other experiments?

What are the primary backgrounds? What is the main goal of the calorimeter detector? What is the main goal of the tracking detector? What are the design considerations of the stopping target? What is the purpose of the extinction target? What are the requirements on the cosmic ray veto? Where do the muons come from? Why is the proton pulse structure the way it is? Why Aluminum? Why are there two bends in the transport magnet? HELP! What does that acronym mean? (link to acronym list)
