The instructions on this page are for Mu2e people from universities and other labs who need to use Fermilab computing resources, need access to the Fermilab site or both.
This includes people who are applying for a Fermilab ID for the first time and those who are renewing an existing ID. If you once had a Fermilab ID that expired long ago, follow the instructions for renewing your ID.

There is a single web form that you can fill out to request that you be registered as a new Fermilab User and that computer accounts be created for you. You can fill out this form from your home institution and you can pick up your Fermilab Visitor's ID card on your first visit to the lab. It will normally take a few hours to one day for all of the steps in this process to be completed; you will receive several emails when your computer accounts have been created.

Before filling out the form, read the following instructions:

*The form asks for your primary email address. If you do not fill this in, all email from the lab to you will be sent to your Fermilab email account. If you are not reading, or do not forward that account, you won't see any of it.

Be sure to read the information about what to do during your first visit to Fermilab, in particular what sort of ID you will need to get on site. You will get your badge on your first visit to Fermilab.

After you have your Visitor's ID number, on your next visit to Fermilab, stop at the [http://get-connected.fnal.gov/users/ User's Office] (on the mezzanine level of Wilson Hall), to fill out some paperwork, and watch a safety video. They will send you to the Key and ID office in the basement to have your picture taken; immediately after your picture is taken you will be issued an ID card. The whole process takes about an hour and the office closes at 4:30 p.m. Plan accordingly and try to get to the User's Office early in the day.
To begin the process go to [https://get-connected.fnal.gov/users/access/ this page].

You will need the actual ID card for after hours access to the lab site, as a prerequisite for accessing non-public areas of the lab site, and for getting a radiation badge.

In all cases, the process may take up to one month; so start early.

If you already have an active Fermilab ID, but do not have accounts on Mu2e computers, please leave this page and follow the instructions at: ComputingAccounts#New_to_Mu2e.

The link to begin the process is at the bottom of this page. Please read the following information that will help you answer the questions on those forms. First, two pieces of jargon you will need to follow the instructions: your "Fermilab ID" is a unique ID number. Your "ID badge", or just "badge", is an RF ID enabled plastic card with your picture, name and Fermilab ID. The link will take you to an integrated process to

  • Register you as a new Fermilab User and assign you a Fermilab ID number
  • Create Fermilab computing accounts ( there are several types, all are created )
  • Optionally create accounts on Mu2e computers. When you get to this part of the process please choose the option to create these accounts.

Here is some other information you will need when filling out the forms:

  • There will be a question about your Fermilab affiliation; the precise wording changes with time. The answer to this is "E-973 (Mu2e Muon to Electron Conversion)". Do NOT select your home institution; there will be another place to supply that information.
  • The form also asks you for the name of the Mu2e Point of Contact (POC) at Fermilab. That person is Bob Bernstein. You can look up his email and phone number in the Fermilab online phone book. There is some information that you will normally get from the POC.
  • You will be asked about a primary work location. You automatically get the Mu2e Hall as a work location. Please also include all of the following
    • Lab 3, 35A Shabbona
    • IARC
    • WH9E
    • SILICONE DET FAC
  • If your group is also working at another location, please add that as well.
  • If you previously had Fermi ID that was affiliated with another experiment and your ID has expired, there is an extra step to take. After your Fermi ID is successfully renewed, you need to apply for Mu2e Computing accounts. See ComputingAccounts#New_to_Mu2e.

Be sure to read the information about what to do during your first visit to Fermilab, in particular what sort of ID you will need to get on site. You will get your badge on your first visit to Fermilab.

To begin the process go to this page.

To check the status of an access request, you can use this page
