The instructions on this page are for Mu2e people from universities and other labs who need to use Fermilab computing resources, need access to the Fermilab site or both. This includes people who are applying for a Fermilab ID for the first time and those who are renewing an existing ID. If you once had a Fermilab ID that expired long ago, follow the instructions for renewing your ID.

In all cases, the process may take up to one month; so start early.

If you already have an active Fermilab ID, but do not have accounts on Mu2e computers, please leave this page and follow the instructions at: ComputingAccounts#New_to_Mu2e.

The link to begin the process is at the bottom of this page. Please read the following information that will help you answer the questions on those forms. First, two pieces of jargon you will need to follow the instructions: your "Fermilab ID" is a unique ID number. Your "ID badge", or just "badge", is an RF ID enabled plastic card with your picture, name and Fermilab ID. The link will take you to an integrated process to

  • Register you as a new Fermilab User and assign you a Fermilab ID number
  • Create Fermilab computing accounts ( there are several types, all are created )
  • Optionally create accounts on Mu2e computers. When you get to this part of the process please choose the option to create these accounts.

Here is some other information you will need when filling out the forms:

  • There will be a question about your Fermilab affiliation; the precise wording changes with time. The answer to this is "E-973 (Mu2e Muon to Electron Conversion)". Do NOT select your home institution; there will be another place to supply that information.
  • The form also asks you for the name of the Mu2e Point of Contact (POC) at Fermilab. That person is Bob Bernstein. You can look up his email and phone number in the Fermilab online phone book. There is some information that you will normally get from the POC.
  • You will be asked about a primary work location. Please include all of the following
    • Lab 3, 35A Shabbona
    • IARC
    • WH9E
    • SILICONE DET FAC
  • If your group is also working at another location, please add that as well.

Be sure to read the information about what to do during your first visit to Fermilab, in particular what sort of ID you will need to get on site. You will get your badge on your first visit to Fermilab.
